"Surbiton Junior Chess is proud to provide a safe and professional environment. Our lead coaches hold Enhanced DBS certificates, ensuring we meet the highest standards for child supervision. Because of this, parents are welcome to drop off their children for the duration of the session.
"Updated Safeguarding Policy: Surbiton Junior Chess"
Policy Effective Date: January 5, 2026
Review Date: January 5, 2027
1. Statement of Intent
Surbiton Junior Chess is committed to the safety and well-being of all players. The welfare of the child is our paramount consideration.
2. Professional Standards (Enhanced DBS)
To provide a secure environment, we maintain the following standards:
• Enhanced DBS Status: All lead coaches and organizers hold current Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificates. This allows us to safely supervise children in "Regulated Activity" without parents needing to remain on-site.
• Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Mrs Jo Briscoe (Email: [email protected]).
3. Supervision & Drop-Off Policy
• Drop-Offs: Parents and guardians are welcome to drop off their children for the duration of the session.
• Sign-In/Out: For safety, every child must be signed in by an adult upon arrival and signed out by an authorized adult at the end of the session.
• Emergency Contact: Parents must be reachable by phone at all times while their child is in our care.

🛡️ Your Child’s Safety
Your child’s welfare is our top priority. To ensure a high standard of care:
• Expert Supervision: Our lead coaches are Enhanced DBS checked, the highest level of security clearance in the UK.
• Safe Environment: Because our staff are fully vetted, parents are not required to stay during the sessions. You are welcome to drop your child off and collect them at the scheduled finish time.
• Safeguarding Lead: Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Mrs Jo Briscoe.
